That is the question. Our Association has been plugging along for the last few years and basically been lead by the same people. Well, the old saying, “In most organizations 5% of the people do 95% of the work” rings true with LAPPOA. Just like in our national election it’s time for change. A few of the Board members have indicated that it’s time to hang it up, limit their participation and pass the gavel to some younger blood. We have a wonderful neighborhood and we need to continue to improve, preserve the area and to help promote the health and safety to the residents. How important is the Property Owners Association? The importance probably varies from property owner to property owner but those of us that understand that the safety of our neighborhood could change overnight believe there should be a buffer between individual residents and the offenders of our CC&R’s. Not often do we need to use our powers as an Association but if and when we have problems it is nice to know that the funds we have collected of the years are there to be used to defend our beautiful neighborhood. The loss of our lake access property is a prime example of the property owners falling asleep at the helm. I don’t want to bring up old wounds but we are at a point that unless more people step up and participate the Association will be gone. It is easy to loose our powers as an Association if we don’t pay attention to details and without power we are no more than a bridge club.
As members, who care about the neighborhood, it’s time to search your sole and step up to the plate and give back a little. Being a board member is not difficult. You don’t have to make decisions by yourself. There are six other members that will help come to the right decision when the time comes. Civil Code states that no board member can be held liable for decisions they make unless they knowingly make a decision that breaks the law.
On July 2nd we are having our first annual BBQ and it’s also time to start a new era with the association. This new website is a testament of someone stepping up. What can you contribute??
See you at the meeting.

Nice article but I would take exception to the statement about the lake access comment. Folks did not fall asleep at the helm! They were all notified and voted not to continue to owner the property because they did not want the liability. Also they agreed as long as they had an appurtenant access it was okay with them.
